The Student Funding Manager in the School of Medicine Graduate Programs Office will be responsible for managing student funding PhD, MD/PhD, Visiting Research Graduate Trainee and Summer Programs in the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have experience with student stipends, wages, and fellowships. They will lead a team of finance generalists and, in coordination with research and clinical departments ensure students are supported by the correct grant and/or funding model. As the Student Funding Manager, they will perform and/or direct others in the completion of a hybrid of complex finance work encompassing a range of specialties including accounting, budgeting, payroll, financial analysis, and purchasing. This role assumes more responsibilities that require deep analysis. They are distinguished by years of experience, depth of institutional knowledge, and sophistication of expertise. This position will report to the Operations Manager, Graduate Programs Office.
Job Description:
* Oversee student funding to ensure that our students receive their financial support correctly and on time.
* Supervise finance team members and student funding generalists.
* Administer funds consistent with School and University guidelines.
* Monitor student funding and work with GPO and departmental stakeholders to manage funding changes. Ensure that updates are entered in SAFM and Workday as needed. Ensure all GPO, UVA, state, and federal rules and regulations are followed as they relate to student funding.
* Oversee preparation of the student funding budget analyses for operations manager and stakeholders.
* Approve student reimbursements in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Work with team to research and resolve student funding issues that arise unexpectedly due to complexities and errors.
* Develop the budget for student-related funding and collaborate with others to enter it into School of Medicine budgeting systems.
* Oversee the HR aspects of students transitioning between stipend and wages.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Five years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
