Student Lab Assistant
Position Purpose
Provides a safe, secure, and respectful learning environment for students that come into their regional student lab to complete work, take reading or math assessments, state testing, fun days, robotics and other events in the lab. The lab assistant will be required to be familiar with the various curriculums that we offer and basic knowledge in core subject areas, but will not need to be an expert in either of these areas.
Essential Job Functions
Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
Assists professional staff in the administration of tests and assessments.
Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
Classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Maintain an accurate curriculum and computer inventory
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.
Travel Requirements
Travels to the regional student center to work in the lab daily, monthly staff meetings, twice annually to all staff meetings somewhere in Oregon, for a 3 day period one time for new staff training, and local student center for professional meetings as required.

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
The student lab assistant works from their home office and student center. The work environment is often controlled and quiet, but will also frequently include moderate to loud noise. The work environment may include exposure to unpleasant interior temperatures, dirt, communicable diseases, and distraught or difficult individuals. The work requires regular focus on a computer screen and precise control of fingers and hand movements. Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting up to 20 pounds and may also be required on occasion.

Qualifications Profile
1. Must possess a valid driver's license, running vehicle, and appropriate automobile insurance
2. Must possess job-related experience providing the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job.
3. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of college level coursework preferred
Experience
Prior experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
