Location: Bethesda, MD Job Type: Full-time; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable Salary Information: The salary range is $49,911-$109,469 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach. The Position The Student Learning Services Teacher reports to the SLS & FLSCO Department Manager. The position creates and implements programs to support students in improving student learning outcomes. The SLS teacher works collaboratively with teachers, school counselors, parents, and other specialists to assist students with learning needs to ensure academic success. The position is covered by the Faculty CBA. - Individualized Support Planning: Develop and implement personalized learning plans tailored to meet the unique academic and developmental needs of students with diverse learning profiles. This includes conducting assessments, setting measurable goals, and regularly monitoring progress to ensure targeted support and intervention.
- Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, and parents/guardians to foster a supportive learning environment that promotes inclusivity and equity. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and parent consultations to discuss student progress, share insights, and coordinate strategies for effective support both in and out of the classroom.
- Innovative Instruction: Employ evidence-based teaching methodologies, differentiated instruction techniques, and assistive technologies to enhance student learning experiences and maximize academic growth. Utilize a variety of instructional resources and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles, address individual challenges, and promote student engagement, autonomy, and self-advocacy.
- Develop pedagogical accommodation plans (PAP, PPS, PAI) for students with learning disorders.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement adaptations as part of accommodation plans (PAP, PPS, PAI).
- Advise teachers on implementing appropriate pedagogical strategies for students with special needs or learning disabilities.
- Conduct observations of referred students to identify learning needs.
- Implement individual or small group academic support sessions to aid student progress.
- Co-teach in the classroom to support students with special needs or learning disabilities.
- Coordinate with parents and external specialists working with supported students.
- Review psychological assessment reports and reports from external specialists to understand the student's learning profile and inform pedagogical accommodations.
- Conduct interviews with students and parents to recommend learning aids or follow-ups by external specialists.
- Collaborate with school counselors, nurses, administration, and guidance counselors to support student learning success.
- Serve as a resource for inclusive education.
- Work as part of the support department team.
- Maintain detailed, confidential records for each student.
- Attendance & Punctuality: Reliable attendance is essential. Staff must be punctual and dependable to meet Rochambeau's needs. Absences or tardiness disrupt work and burden colleagues. Attendance and reliability impact performance evaluation and continued employment.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or significant coursework and related experience in Learning Services. Master's Degree in Special Education, Psychology preferred.
- Two or more years of experience working with students within the classroom setting preferred.
- Relevant training/certifications related to teaching students with special needs desired.
- At least 1-2 years of relevant experience related to:
- IEP planning, writing, and implementation
- Working with children with academic support needs (1:1, small group)
- Assessment
- Intervention (Literacy/Math) experience is an advantage
- Knowledge and experience in instructional program development, learning styles, cognitive, emotional, and structural support.
- Bilingual in French preferred.
- Practical experience with study skills assessment, test taking strategies, organizational skills, note taking, and general academic skill sets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
