For more information visit dchistory.org.Position Specific Summary By contributing to the operations of the DC History Center as the Visitor Services Assistant(s), you are an essential part of a vibrant community that celebrates the local history of the nation's capital. You will develop administrative and customer service skills. Through our exhibits, publications, and programs, you will have the opportunity to learn about transportation, culture, social justice, neighborhood development, and additional topics relating to local life in the nation's capital.Visitor Services Assistant(s) staff our exhibit welcome desk, galleries, and retail space during our open hours. You will also support DC History Center participation in public programs such as the DC State Fair, DC Art All Night, DC History Conference, and more. In this role, you will primarily:
  • Introduce visitors and program participants to the DC History Center's mission and encourage engagement with our programs, library and collections, exhibits, and publications
  • Orient visitors to exhibit content
  • Monitor public use of exhibit spaces
  • Staff the register in the retail space
  • Staff DC History Center presence at public events
  • Assist with conference session monitoring, wayfinding, registration
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Coordinator or Senior Visitor Services Manager
Recurring Available ShiftsThis position will begin the weekend of January 18, 2025.
  • Thursday 11:30-7:30, 2 shifts @4 hours minimum, may be filled by the same person
  • Friday 11:30-7:30, 2 shifts @4 hours minimum, may be filled by the same person
  • Saturday 11:30-6:30 2 shifts @4 hours minimum, may be filled by the same person
  • Sunday 11:30-6:30 2 shifts @4 hours minimum, may be filled by the same person
Additional Variable Scheduling Opportunities
  • Mutually agreed upon evening and weekend hours to support all-staff programs and public events outside of consistent exhibit hours
As the Visitor Services Assistant(s), you will develop administrative and customer service skills while sharing an appreciation for local DC history and culture. Join us!Standard Position Description The student will assist with administrative and logistical operations in a Museum or Gallery. asks may include: preparation of exhibit installations, assisting with preliminary research for exhibitions, assist in editing and formatting documents, general maintenance of exhibit space, welcoming guest and explaining exhibits, and office administrative functions. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.Professional Outcomes Communication, Teamwork, Professionalism Required Qualifications This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided.Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Interest in the fields of museum studies
