General Definition of Work Performs intermediate human support work managing Students of Success site, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and performing various functions associated with grant program and goals, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the SOS Program Coordinator. Examples of DutiesQualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential Functions Manages middle school Students of Success participants and Student of Promise volunteers. Ensures homework is completed and tutoring is provided; collaborates with teachers and staff; communicates with parents regarding successes and challenges. Engages students in planned physical and academic activities. Coordinates guest speakers; utilizes community resources. Prepares reports and other types of correspondence; prepares and maintains files and records. Prepares monthly calendar, which includes planning student activities, field trips, special events, etc.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Some knowledge of department policies and procedures; general knowledge in preparing reports and other types of correspondence; general knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software; ability to make arithmetic computations; general knowledge in the operation of the equipment required for the position; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain working relationship with associates and the general public.Physical RequirementsThis work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work frequently sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Minimum QualificationsGraduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in human services, education, or a related field and one year of experience working with youths with an emphasis on behavior management, or post high school education in human services or a related field and one to two years of experience working with youths; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Must have valid Driver's License and clean driving record. Supplemental Information Supplemental InformationNote: In accordance with State mandates and the Rockingham County Emergency Operations Plan, Rockingham County Health and Human Services staff from the Divisions of Social Services, Public Health and Integrated Health are required to staff emergency shelters during times of disaster. Please be advised that every staff person is eligible to be assigned to an emergency shelter or Emergency Operations Center. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. If you have student loans and you are selected for full-time employment with Rockingham County, you may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on your William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying payments on those loans while employed full-time by certain public service employers.
