Job Summary Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is looking for a full-time Student Services Specialist. The Student Services Specialist in the Financial Aid Office performs a variety of complex financial aid duties. This position is responsible for providing customer service to students, parents, faculty, and staff, as well as handling more difficult front-line issues that arise. The role includes assisting students with the financial aid process, including the completion of forms used to determine financial aid eligibility. Additionally, this position involves completing reports, special projects, and research related to the administration of financial aid. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence, may be required to work on or off campus at related events to promote the financial aid application process, and may be required to visit/work at off site locations on occasion. Essential Functions 50% - Assists students and parents in person, online, virtually, via text message and phone; provides information in regards to Title IV and non Title IV forms of financial assistance, including assisting students with navigating the financial aid process from initial application to final award. 30% - Reviews student financial aid applications and paperwork for accuracy and completeness, and requests additional information in compliance with federal and state laws; reviews various reports on a regular basis; performs regular follow-up via email and phone calls with students to ensure they understand the financial aid process; and assists the students in submitting all required paperwork in order to process their financial aid. 10% - Responds to complex student and parent inquiries requiring detailed knowledge of financial aid regulations and policies; speaks with and presents to student groups regarding financial aid eligibility and procedures; plans and coordinates Financial Aid outreach events on and off campus and virtual events. 10% - Assists with the administration of financial aid programs such as verifying the accuracy of awards and assisting with reviewing reports related to required award adjustments. When working with students, estimates eligibility for grants and loans based on needs analysis and funding source regulations. May assists in training of students, staff, and temporary employees; performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. For Internal Postings Only, The Following Criteria Apply: Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and at least six months of part-time student services or college teaching experience at the Maricopa Community Colleges. Desired Qualifications A. At least (2) years of experience working in an Admissions Office, Advisement Office, Financial Aid Office or other related Student Services Office. B. Experience assisting students and parents in an Institution of Higher Education in any area related to student affairs. C. Experience presenting and public speaking. D. Knowledge related to federal financial aid and the process of applying for and receiving financial aid funds, including but not limited to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA),Verification and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). E. Experience using computer or web based technology in the delivery of programs and services (i.e. PeopleSoft, Financial Management Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Electronic Forms software). Special Working Conditions Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense. May be required to travel to off site locations. May be required to work evenings and weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen. May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. Must be in good standing with all U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid programs and eligible access to federal websites is required to perform job duties.
