Student Success Coach & Accommodations Counselor
Student Success Coaches are responsible for coaching students to ensure a successful transition to and through college.
They are responsible for providing coaching and intervention to an assigned caseload of students.
They are committed to students by ensuring student access to programs and services, helping remove barriers to student
enrollment and progression, and supporting and assisting students with achieving their educational goals.
They also assist in coordinating campus-wide programs and other major events under the Office of Student Success.
As the accommodations counselor, this position will also work with every student who needs disability accommodations.
Primary responsibilities include:
? Counsels, advises, and supports assigned students from enrollment through graduation
? Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings, and proactive outreach and
communication
? Responds to students' questions, concerns, and needs.
? Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own
performance and develop academic success plans
? Assists students with processes related to registration, financial aid, student accounts, and other related topics, as
needed
? Tracks assigned students' progress to ensure academic progression
? Plans and conducts programming for students related to student success
? Assists with the planning and implementation of summer orientation and new student welcome week activities.
? Collaborates with other departments and services to understand processes, systems, and services and to resolve
student issues
? Monitors early-warning systems, in order to maximize proactive detection and interception of potential student
withdrawal
? Ensures effective outreach to students in a timely manner for important information (registration dates, drop/add,
etc.)
? Identifies at-risk students and connects them to campus resources
? Works closely with academic advisors to promote engagement and retention of students who have been identified
as being at-risk for disengagement and attrition
? Provide support for students in acquiring textbooks
? Consult with prospective and current students regarding academic and residential accommodations.
? Facilitate the Student Accessibility Support registration and accommodation processes.
? Review documentation to determine eligibility for academic and/or residential accommodations.
? Develop reasonable and appropriate accessibility support plans, including academic accommodations and, in
consultation with the Dir. of Residence Life, residential accommodations
? Acts as a liaison between students and faculty on concerns related to accommodations
? Supports faculty in providing classroom accommodations (testing center, etc.)
? Provide individual coaching for students with disabilities regarding academic success strategies and techniques.
? Follow professional ethics, state laws, HIPAA/FERPA, and Coker University procedures for the administration
and documentation of accommodations records.
? Provide training to faculty, staff and student leaders regarding working with students with disabilities.
? Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
? Earned bachelor's degree
? Experience working with disability acommodations
? Ability to work in person on campus
? Ability to work non-traditional hours if needed
? Experience serving students from diverse backgrounds, particularly students with disabilities
