The region is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers, boaters, cyclists, climbers, cavers and hikers, all this while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville.Summary:The Student Success Coach will serve within the office of Student Development, supporting the college's residential community through discipleship, academic success coaching, and accessibility services for students in need. This person will serve as a Student Success Coach for the general student population, giving special attention to those struggling with accessibility issues on campus. This person will work with assigned students one-on-one and will focus on working with retention and academic success efforts, promoting an environment that challenges students to develop academically, emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an active and theologically reformed Christian commitment, serving as a model, advisor, and facilitator of student development.Essential Functions:
- Meet on a regular basis with students identified with potential retention concerns, as assigned by the Director of Student Success, which includes students on Academic Probation, students with Provisionally Accepted status, and academically at-risk students identified by professors.
- Work directly with students who need assistance with campus and classroom accessibility.
- Coach students in the areas of time management, effective study strategies, effective communication, and general academic organizational skills.
- Create and implement Academic Recovery Plans to assist students who are struggling academically due to extenuating or personal circumstances.
- Assist in oversight of Testing Center operations for students receiving academic accommodations.
- Attend Residence Life and Student Development staff meetings, as needed.
- Establish and maintain relationships with students, staff, and faculty through attendance at campus events, informal interaction and organized programs and workshops.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Success.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience working with college students to assist in strategizing a thorough developmental and educational plan for improvement.
- Experience facilitating meetings with young adults for the purpose of nurturing Christian discipleship.
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Graduate degree or working towards a graduate degree within a related field.
- Experience working with academically at-risk college students.
- Experience working in a Christian higher education or non-profit environment.
- Experience as a sign language interpreter would add an additional desired component to this position.

Physical Work Environment:
- This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other job-related technology.
- There is a mix of standing and sitting for this particular role however approximately 50% of the in-office work day is spent in a stationary position.
- Classified as light, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 15 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
- Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Days and hours will vary during fall and spring semesters. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Travel is not required for this position except for professional development and training opportunities.
