Position Type: Support Staff/Student Support SpecialistDate Posted: 10/30/2024Location: Collegium Charter SchoolDate Available: ImmediatelyJob Description Title: Student Support Specialist (High School) Reports To: Principal Employee Type: Full-Time, 10-months, Hourly, Non-ExemptSummary The role of the Student Support Specialist is designed to provide extended classroom support and follow up for students who have been identified as needing additional intensive support and/or students who demonstrate a need for support as a result of difficulty self-regulating behavior. Student Support Specialists will monitor and model replacement behaviors for students based on recommendations from the student intervention team. Student Support Specialists will assist with data collection and analysis, communicate with building Administrators and intervention teams regarding additional needs, and ensure that behavior interventions are practiced with fidelity. Student Support Specialists will provide supervision for reinforcements requiring out of classroom locations. Student Support Specialists will be a resource for equitable opportunities for students with challenging behaviors. - Provide direct support to students by teaching and modeling research/evidence based interventions as determined by the intervention team.
- Facilitate restorative meetings between staff and students, staff and staff, students and students.
- Work collaboratively with the student's intervention team and parents to develop and implement a personalized plan with intervention strategies and positive behavior support.
- Implement preventative strategies, as identified by the intervention team, like reviewing expectations, providing pre-correction, reminding students of incentives, and providing students with planned breaks or frequent reinforcement, as needed.
- Implement identified interventions to enable students to remain in class and/or de-escalate students, as needed.
- Implement support to students in alternate locations completing academic work or alternate activities.
- Document student time and behavior during completion of alternative activities to classroom teacher and/or intervention team.
- Provide direct support to staff by modeling research/evidence-based interventions.
- Provide direct support to students by modeling research/evidence-based interventions and implementing interventions identified by student intervention team.
- Assist with data collection for Functional Behavioral Analysis as directed by a School Psychologist or BCBA.
- Ensure that data in all systems, including but not limited to PowerSchool, SWIS, restraint reporting form, and suspension log is accurate and up-to-date.
- Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations
Qualifications
- Background or experience working with a diverse population with diverse behavioral needs
- Minimum of an associate's degree, preferred bachelor's degree
- Preferably a Registered Behavior Technician certification and/or elementary behavior response experience in a school setting and/or experience/training in restorative practices.
Professional Development:
- Registered Behavior Technician certification, if not already held.
- Restorative practice certificate, if not already held.
- Safety Care certification, if not already held.
- Understanding of school-wide Positive Behavior Support System.
