Job Summary
Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking a Student Support Specialist to aid students in reaching their educational goals by providing homework assistance in English, Reading, Social Sciences and other subjects, whether through direct one-on-one, group, and/or online tutoring, and directing students to other resources such as NetTutor if need be. Other primary duties include working collaboratively with library staff in covering library circulation duties. Travel to other campuses and possibly working one evening until 7PM.
Job Duties:
* Aid patrons with homework and supplemental instruction for all courses taught by BSCTC. Proof papers per student request (walk-ins, appointment, and/or online). The focus of this position will be to tutor math and science individually and as groups.
* Cover library circulation desk as needed, daily breaks and lunch periods and any other times the library staff is off for vacation and/or sick time.
* Prepare Library & ACE for daily opening/closing and maintain rooms:
* Unlock/lock needed doors
* Turn on/off lights
* Turn on/off lab computers
* Complete and Collect daily stat sheets
Submit statistics as directed
* Add paper to printers
* Manage and maintain book stacks as needed
* Assist potential students with BSCTC online application process and assist current students/patrons with email, self-service, Blackboard, document processing and lab supported hardware/software.
* Conduct tours of the library/ACE for new and/or potential students, discussing with them the services both departments have to offer and the importance of taking advantage of those services. Collaborate with teaching faculty and visit classrooms upon request to discuss the resources of library/ACE.
Compile/reord statistical data.
* Participate in institutional service and professional development activities
* Collaborate with Library/ACE staff on other campuses to insure students are
served; either in-person or online
* Possibly work one night per week until 7PM.
Collaborate with other library staff to complete inventory of physical collections
* Manage and maintain book stacks as needed
* Promote the resources of the Library/ACE to students at various functions such as:
ECA New Student Orientations and Ready-to-Work and Work and Learn Programs
* Understands and follows all policies and those procedures relevant to the position. Ensures that all online tutoring requests are answered in a prompt fashion.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree and one year related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and three years related experience.
