Job Type Full-timeDescriptionPURPOSE STATEMENTWhile doing their training a Student Surgical Tech is a professional who assists the surgical team. The Student Surgical Tech will learn to anticipate the surgeon's needs during an operation. The Student Surgical Tech will learn to maintain strict sterile technique and follow current guidelines. The Student Surgical Tech works under the supervision of their Surgical Technologist Preceptor, the circulating Registered Nurse in the operating room and/or Charge Nurse of the unit. The Student Surgical Tech must be a patient advocate.The Student Surgical Technologist (tech) will receive a monthly stipend while completing the surgical tech program. In exchange for the stipend, the Student Surgical Tech will agree to work two months as a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist for each month they received the stipend.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Observes and learns how to assist physicians with procedures in the operating room and endoscopy suite.
- Learns correct instrumentation and supplies for procedures.
- Learns aseptic technique and ensure a safe environment for the patient.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures.
- Utilize time management skills to facilitate the schedule.
- Routinely participates in department projects to continuously improve the department and/or organization.
- Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
- Completion of mandatory department and hospital education.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
RequirementsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Student must be currently enrolled and in good standing of a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
- Current BLS preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
