Duties

Division of Administration (DOA): Interns may be assigned to one of the following areas: Acquisition Services Branch, COO and DOA Program Management, Corporate Services Branch, Human Resources Organization or Operations and Regional Coordination Branch and will perform various clerical tasks which involve providing support on division wide work products relating to, but not limited to, staffing; position management; training records management; space and equipment management; web work and information security. The incumbent will assist in preparing reports, memoranda, and emails that may include matters of a sensitive nature. Other tasks may include compiling data; data entry into databases and spreadsheets; performing research on various topics/issues; responding to staff requests.

Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP): supports the FDIC's mission to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation's financial system by working to advance economic inclusion, protect consumers, and build positive connections between banks and other stakeholders. Interns may be assigned to one of the following areas: Administrative Management and Operations Branch (AMOB), Compliance and Community Reinvestment Act Examinations Branch, Consumer and Community Affairs Branch (CCA) or Policy and Research Branch. The incumbent will provide support in the areas of preparing reports, memoranda, perform administrative support to the Washington Office and Senior Regional Management and other tasks which may include compiling data; data entry into databases and spreadsheets; performing research on various topics/issues; responding to staff requests and community outreach. (Located in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA).

Chief Financial Officer Organization (CFOO): As an intern in CFOO, you will be assigned to either the Division of Finance (DOF) or the Office of Risk Management and Internal Controls (ORMIC). Assignments can range from work on financial reporting and analysis, accounting and tax policy, assessment collections, investments, payment processing, administering the FDIC's travel and relocation program, coordinating the budget formulation and execution process, and management of internal controls and operational risks.

Division of Insurance and Research (DIR): provides the public with a sound deposit insurance system by providing comprehensive statistical information on banking; identifying and analyzing emerging risks; conducting research that supports sound deposit insurance, banking policy, improved risk assessment, and consumer protection; and assessing the adequacy of the deposit insurance fund and implementing an effective and fair risk-based premium system.

Qualifications

You must meet the eligibility and qualifications by the closing date of the announcement.

To be found eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.50 out of 4.0; (3) be in good academic standing; and (4) meet graduation requirement as stated in the Requirements section. Education requirements are established by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and must be met by close of announcement. Below are the requirements by grade:

CG-03 level - Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study; OR have six months of general experience to include: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR have a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

CG-04 level - Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree; OR have 1 year of general experience to include: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR have a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

CG-05 level - Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; OR must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CG-4 grade level or above in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience for this position include: Providing administrative or technical support to a program operation, such as entering and tracking data for a program, scheduling meetings, coordinating travel, and responding to inquiries by phone and/or in writing; Preparing correspondence, documents, and reports, including drafting and editing written materials; Using web based or standalone software, such as the Microsoft suite of products, and cloud-based document systems to enter data, organize and present information, and run reports.; OR have a combination of education and experience as listed below. Please note, only education in excess of 60 undergraduate hours may be used in this calculation.

Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.

Education

A participant must be accepted for enrollment or are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution or accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program, Jobs Corps, AmeriCorps, and Peace Corps) on a full or half-time basis; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.5 grade point average; and remain in good academic standing.
