Please do not apply here, apply internally through Workday.If you are NOT a current employee or student, please click Apply and complete the application process for external applicants.JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Penn State's Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) is seeking a Community Health Educator (Student Wellness Specialist - Intermediate Professional) to provide one-on-one services to students with alcohol or cannabis policy and/or legal violations. The mission of HPW is to cultivate a community that supports student success, well-being, and the pursuit of lifelong health. The office is committed to supporting a safe and inclusive environment that fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal well-being. The Community Health Educator reports to an Assistant Director.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Provide individual alcohol and cannabis services.Deliver brief screening, assessment, intervention, and referral for students with conduct-related violations and substance-related emergency department visits.Educate students about harm reduction strategies.Apply motivational interviewing strategies.Conduct education workshops about alcohol and cannabis for fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and academic classes.Assist with the development and implementation of health promotion initiatives, as needed.Complete other duties as assigned.Typical Education and Experience Requirements:Requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.The following background checks must be successfully completed for this position:This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.Additional Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications:Knowledge of and experience with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and motivational interviewing is preferred.Knowledge of and experience with health promotion theory and evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies is preferred.CHES certification is preferred, but not required.Additional Required Competencies:A commitment to working with diverse populations is essential.Ability to work with secure and confidential student information, including ability to work in an electronic medical record.Ability to maintain high standards for evidence-based practice set by relevant professional organizations.Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills.Ethical decision-making and the ability to be a flexible and collaborative team member.This is an in-person position and includes some evening and weekend work.
