Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker -Career Ambassador (General). The student worker will be an integral component in providing career development services to NS students. Career Ambassadors will be required to go through ongoing paid training prior to the start of each semester. The Career Services Center (CSC) at Nevada State seeks to fill Career Ambassador positions within the department. We are interested in applicants who are motivated, able to learn new skills quickly, enjoy helping others, and are detail-oriented. Interested applicants should be comfortable with a high level of responsibility and in good academic standing. Professionalism and a willingness to help others is a must. Career Ambassadors must possess excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills as well as an ability to connect with diverse individuals.

Career Ambassadors would assist with managing the marketing of career development events, overseeing student and alumni outreach, research and data analysis, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls and emails, creating flyers and marketing material, managing the office's social media accounts, planning and attending career events, help facilitate classroom presentations, and other duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Student Success Support

* Provide friendly and attentive customer service; greeting and assisting students, alumni and prospective students and their families with general questions regarding CSC services and resources; answer office phone calls and walk-in questions.

* Conduct outreach to students enrolled in our Undeclared Exploratory Freshman career advising initiative to encourage students to schedule their required 1:1 appointment with our Freshman/Sophomore Career Advisor.

* Conduct outreach to follow-up and collect data on CSC events, services provided, etc. as requested.

* Conduct pop-up tabling on campus to inform students of our services and direct them to our office.

Event Planning & Facilitation

* Assist with the implementation of career development workshops and events (help with set-up, check-in, take-down, etc.), including large-scale events such as career fairs.

* As schedule allows, help facilitate presentations to NS classes on the center's resources and services.

General Administrative Duties

* Help sort incoming donations to the Career Services Career Closet.

* Conduct data analysis and compile reports for programming and initiatives upon request.

* Support management of departmental online platforms including posting job and internship opportunities on our Handshake college career networking site

Other Duties as Assigned

* Students will have the opportunity to propose and /or co-develop new role responsibilities based on their skill set and interests. Each student will be assigned responsibilities that align with both departmental need and student career aspirations.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must be in good academic standing with a 2.5 minimum GPA.

* Be an NS degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 college level credits each semester employed.

* Commit to working at least 12 hours/week, with a maximum of 19.5 hours/week.

* Ability to maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate excellent customer services skills and foster a welcoming rapport.

* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

* Exhibit leadership and initiative; be dependable, display self-discipline and professionalism.

* Must demonstrate ability to maintain FERPA standards and manage sensitive information.

* Ability to work independently and on a team.

* Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

* Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

* Knowledge of available student support services at NS.

* Able to work flexible hours (some evenings/weekends; student workers will always be notified well in advance of any evening or weekend hours; evening/weekend hours are rare but may be required a few times per year).

Work Hours:

Career Ambassadors commit to working 12-19.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8am-5pm. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week. Occasionally, Career Ambassadors will be asked to work weeknights and/or weekends to assist with career-related events. Career Ambassadors are required to attend paid training prior to the beginning of their start date as well as the prior to the beginning of each fall semester.

Hourly Rate:

$14.00 per hour.
