Job Description:

Assouline is seeking a new Studio Manager to help us in our creative mission. Leading a team of designers, the creative director will bring a mix of design expertise and business acumen to the role. We're looking for an experience manager of people, someone who can inspire others while taking our creative output to a new level as we continue to grow. The ideal candidate will have natural eye for design and be a prolific generator of dynamic ideas that connect with all types of audiences.

The luxury book publisher, founded by Prosper and Martine, has published over 1,500 titles across international markets on subjects including architecture, art, design, fashion, gastronomy, lifestyle, photography and travel.

The candidate selected for this position will work directly with Creative Director alongside art directors and designers in the publisher's design studio while earning conveyable experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should have excellent communication, multi-tasking, and creative conceptualization skills. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once. This role will be IN OFFICE ONLY, no remote work. We are also unable to relocate anyone for this role at this time. Please submit portfolio with resume.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a cross-functional team of designers assigning projects based on experience level.
  • Lead and review the work of the creative teams for all book design, and collateral.
  • Creating and implementing monthly deadlines, project goals, expectations and workflows to ensure a smooth production process with on-time delivery.
  • Carefully look at how much time is being spent on certain tasks to examine where workflow processes could be improved.
  • Proofing and reviewing designs and checking documents before they are sent off.
  • Prioritize work and resources based on needs.
  • Facilitate effective communication to ensure leadership is informed of project progress, risks, and decisions.
  • Conduct 1-1 sessions with creative team, maintaining strategic thinking to develop actionable initiatives in a responsible manner.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, with 3 or more years as an Designer in an agency or corporate setting.
  • Proficiency in leading a team of diverse, talented creatives
  • Strong creative vision, with an eye on business objectives
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of project management and time management.
  • Understanding of book publishing a must.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Typography, graphic designer, or production artist.
  • Experience in project management, with a focus on creative direction.

The appointed candidate will be offered a salary within the range of $130,000-$150,000 annually. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
