Substitute After School Program Instructor (Part Time)Temporary, As Needed - In-Person Oakland, CAMission: Safe Passages disrupts the cycle of poverty by engaging youth and families to build and drive a continuum of services that supports student success and community development.Safe Passages is a non-profit organization committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty by supporting our local community. We serve over 5,000 children and families annually through our strategies that span across the life spectrum of birth through young adulthood, including Early Childhood, School Linked Services, Juvenile Justice, and Career Pathways. Safe Passages' work is based on the premises that access to educational opportunity, health services, and family support should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status, and that healthy and supported youth are better prepared to learn and succeed.Essential Functions:The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. In some cases, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.
- Ensure program safety by implementing and enforcing all School Site, and Safe Passages policies.
- Develop and instruct enrichment activities for youth within social emotional learning, S.T.E.A.M, health and fitness, youth leadership, and social justice. Enrichment lesson plans are provided for the first 4 months of program.
- Complete weekly lesson plans to be submitted via Google Classroom.
- Prepare students for performances or presentations at showcases and family events.
- Provide youth development best practices, monitor student progress and collect surveys as appropriate.
- Participate in weekly collaborative staff meetings and trainings. Agency-wide professional developments quarterly.
Substitution Classification Requirements:
- Response Time - Substitutes are expected to report to work or begin tasks within a specified timeframe if contacted and confirmed.
- Availability and Flexibility - Employees must be reachable via phone, email, or other communication methods.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:
- Must have a High School Diploma.
- At least 48 semester units from an accredited college or passing grade on Instructional Aid Exam.
Experience:
- Demonstrated children and youth instructions and facilitation experience (volunteer/paid) working in an urban K-12 environment
- Ability to work with children, youth, families, and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities
- Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Classroom management skills
- Ability to develop and implement weekly lesson plans
- Strong Communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working on a team
- Experience using Microsoft Offices and Google Suites
- Quarterly professional development will be provided
- Valid US Driver's License and a reliable vehicle
Human Resource Requirements:
- Clearance of TB test, COVID vaccination, and background (fingerprint) check
- Proof of eligibility to work in the US
- Full COVID-19 vaccine; TB test within the last 3 years
- Prior experience as a community organizer a plus
Employment Classification:This is an hourly substitution position that is temporary. The position does not include medical, dental or vision benefits.Compensation:$21 - $25 per hour/paid weekly depending on education, experience and references.Safe Passages is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
