ESSENTIAL DUTIESLeads the school learning organization by creating a climate and culture conducive to continuous improvement of student achievement and social, emotional, and behavioral development.Establishes and fosters positive school/community relationships, and clearly communicates core values.Incorporates ethical principles in all decision-making processes, and treats all members of the school community with fairness, equity, dignity and respect.Effectively communicates, uses consensus building and conflict resolution techniques, and problem solving skillsLeads and engages stakeholders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school improvement plan.Monitors, evaluates and reports progress in student achievement and school improvement initiatives to stakeholders.Establishes and conveys high expectations for himself/herself, all employees, students, and colleagues.Positively impacts the performance of building employees through effective mentoring, supervision, and evaluation.Guides curriculum delivery and professional development that promotes a focus on student learning consistent with the District vision, mission, and goals.Participates in instructional decision-making, and ensures the differentiation of instructional strategies, materials, and content to engage all students in learning.Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, tests, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration.Prepares, submits and implements ethically, accurately, and efficiently the school budget and accounts.Works with appropriate district personnel in the effective and efficient operation of the school plant, food service, transportation, and accounting functions.Recruits, interviews, recommends for hire, mentors and evaluates highly qualified faculty and staff; and works with appropriate district administrators in the selection and assignment of building personnel.Manages the implementation of a variety of bargained agreements with and for employees.Participates in child study and IEP meetings as appropriate.Maintains a safe learning and working environment, and responds to emergencies according to protocol.Counsels students who display academic and behavioral difficulties, and addresses the needs of a diverse student and school community.Oversees student co-curricular, interscholastic, intramural, and social activities.Maintains current knowledge of developments and best practices in the field of middle school education.Provides leadership in supporting groups such as PTA, school-business partnerships, community agencies, etc.Performs other duties as may be assigned.ESSENTIAL SKILLS/APTITUDESProvides active communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members.Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and related communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and creating original documents.Ability to work independently without supervision and as a team member Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, problem solve independently and with others, and take initiative.Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.Ability to organize, prioritize, and assume responsibility.Capable of representing the District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to obtain and utilize additional training, if necessary.Aptitude for detailMust be able to successfully use, maintain, and manipulate Microsoft Office Professional Software (Excel, Access, Power Point and Word), Internet technology, and Outlook email software QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Masters of Educational Administration and certification as an Iowa 7-12, or K-12 principal and evaluator approval licensure required. Administrative experience preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to administrators, colleagues, parents, students and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to use spreadsheets and reporting documents that assist with the computation of data. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and forward 0 -24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp items. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 - 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as office materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc. WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
