Food Service Worker Dept/Div: Food Service FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs semi-skilled work preparing and serving school meals and cleaning cafeteria and eating areas, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Kitchen Manager and Food Service Director. - Prepares and serves meats, breads, vegetables, fruits, deserts, salads, soups, and other foods.
- Washes pots, pans, kettles, and other cooking utensils.
- Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens, can opener and other food service and mechanical equipment.
- Cleans and sanitizes work surfaces, eating, and food preparation areas.
- Sweeps, mops, and performs other custodial duties as assigned.
- Receives and stocks food supplies, maintains sanitary conditions.
- Prepares and transports food as necessary.
- Acts as a cashier; receives student or staff lunch monies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale; general knowledge of the use and care of food preparation equipment, tools and utensils; some knowledge of U.S.D.A. rules and regulations; skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions; ability to learn to operate standard computer equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather) and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a loud noise location.
