THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION IS NOW REQUIRING ALL PARAEDUCATORS TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND/OR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TO MEET TITLE 1, PART A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE PROVIDE OUR OFFICE WITH A COPY PRIOR TO BEING THE SELECTED CANDIDATE. Purpose Statement The job of Lunchroom/Playground Monitor - Elementary is done for the purpose/s of providing supervision of students in common areas of the school including the playground and lunchroom. Essential Functions:
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs;
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions;
  • Facilitates activities among students for the purpose of providing direction in playground interactions and age-appropriate activities;
  • Maintains equipment and work area for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements;
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. playground, lunchroom, etc.) for the purpose of resolving conflict to provide a safe and positive learning environment;
  • Participates in meetings and conferences (e.g. with parents, staff, and students, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information and helping resolve issues;
  • Provides support to students for the purpose of to resolve minor conflicts;
  • Reinforces expectations for student behavior for the purpose of in common areas of the school;
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel;
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Other Functions:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform single tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: stages of child development and learning styles; and age-appropriate activities. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervision; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 45% walking, 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
