Job Title: Substitute MechanicPosition Type: On-call, as needed basisLocation: Transportation DepartmentReports to: Transportation DirectorJob Description: The Granger School District is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Substitute Mechanic on an as-needed basis. The Substitute Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the district's fleet of school buses and transportation vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation. This position requires a keen attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff.Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification or enrolled in a state certified program for diesel mechanic.
- Experience in diesel engine repair preferred.
- CDL preferred
- Previous experience working as a mechanic, preferably with school buses or large vehicles.
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues effectively.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to school bus maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance tasks on school buses, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.Diagnose and repair mechanical issues with school bus engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.Conduct inspections of school buses to identify any potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed on school buses.Communicate effectively with transportation staff and administration regarding maintenance schedules and bus availability.Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.Assist with emergency repairs and on-call duties as needed.Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle maintenance.Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.Comfortable working in various weather conditions and in a garage environment.Good vision and hearing to detect potential safety hazards.Ability to pass a background check.SCHEDULE: On call, as neededBENEFITS: As per state law and board policySALARY: $25.00 PER HOUR
