Job OverviewIn the absence of the school Nurse, the Substitute Nurse will fulfill the responsibilities of the Nurse by functioning as a health care provider and manager in the school setting.
Position DescriptionEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperations- Identify, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate student and staff health concerns, including physical and mental health needs and injuries using available health data to accommodate needs of students and staff
- Provide health assessments, referrals, follow-up, and reporting for health factors impacting student education
- Maintain accurate and complete student health records including immunizations, medication administration, individual student treatment records and screening results
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases by interpreting and complying with regulations including Texas immunization law, early intervention, surveillance, reporting, and follow-up
Communication- Provide chronic disease management and training to designated personnel, ensuring competency, including but not limited to medication administration, seizure care, anaphylaxis care, ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheostomy care, and catheterizations
- Plan and Implement individualized healthcare plans and services for children with disabilities and/or health conditions interfering with learning, including medication administration and monitoring
Supervisory Responsibilities- Plan, assign, and direct work for the Health Services program

- Bachelor's Degree Nursing degree required from an accredited professional nursing education program
- a combination of an Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing education program with a minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse will be considered in lieu of degree requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse License from the Texas State Board of Nursing
- Certified in First Aid, CPR & AED Usage
- Experience in direct patient care within the last five years
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a registered nurse preferred
- Possess a strong working knowledge of the RN scope of practice as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing
- Ability to demonstrate physical assessment and intervention skills
- Must be proficient in using equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services
- Ability to demonstrate organizational, management, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff both verbally and in writing

Additional Information- This position may require lifting/repositioning student, toileting, diapering, exposure to medications, student accidents and illness, bodily fluids, and cleansers.
