Location: Abingdon,VA, USA
Position Summary: Serves as a school nurse substitute on an as needed basis to provide services otherwise provided by a full time school nurse including: preventive, acute; emergent and chronic health care management for students; promoting student wellness; supporting student academic achievement, encouraging a safe environment; acting as health resource for students, families and faculty/staff; and providing limited services for employees including emergent care. The school health program and nursing service oversight is provided through the Washington County Schools Special Services Programs' Head School Nurse.
Education and/or Experience: Candidates must at a minimum possess an associate's degree in nursing, and maintain valid licensure to practice nursing in the state of Virginia. Experience in school nursing and Community Health is desirable.
Qualification Requirements:
Requires at minimum an associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program, and a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Virginia.
Acceptable candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in pediatrics, or a related area of practice.
Candidates must possess demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents/guardians.
Must possess knowledge and skills with an emphasis in pediatrics, or related specialty.
Must receive clearance for employment with Washington County Schools via a required state criminal background check.
Candidates must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
Must meet the requirements of the State of Virginia Board of Nursing pertaining to the completion of continuing education credits (CEU) to qualify for renewal of licensure.
