Job Description:
The Substitute Teacher provides temporary instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher, supporting students aged 3 to 18 across various grade levels, including those with disabilities. This role involves adapting to different classroom settings, following established lesson plans, and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all students.Responsibilities: Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular teacher or school, adapting as necessary to meet the needs of students. Engage with students ranging from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, including those with diverse learning needs and disabilities. Manage classroom behavior, using positive reinforcement and school-established guidelines to ensure a safe, productive environment. Assist students with disabilities, providing any necessary accommodations or modifications outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture that promotes learning and personal growth. Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and, if required, parents or guardians. Follow all school policies, procedures, and state guidelines to ensure the well-being and academic progress of students. Supervise students in non-classroom settings, such as the lunchroom or playground, as needed. Complete any required documentation, including attendance and behavior reports.Qualifications: Education: Minimum of a high school diploma; associate or bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred. Experience: Experience working with children or youth in a structured setting; familiarity with special education or previous experience supporting students with disabilities is a plus. Skills: Strong communication, adaptability, classroom management, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with children of varying age groups and learning needs.Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks as required by individual student needs. Willingness to assist with physical or personal care needs for students with disabilities, as needed.Other Requirements: Background check and fingerprinting required prior to employment.
