JOB SUMMARY: Under direction of the building principal, follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:
- Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation, and basic math;
- Methodologies, techniques and practices used to address the educational and emotional needs of regular program and special education students;
- Strategies for the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention plans;
- applicable directives, standards, procedures, policies, rules, regulations, codes, laws and guidelines.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults contacted in the course of work;
- Understand, carry out and communicate oral and written directions;
- Make independent decisions to manage the classroom and respond to emergency situations;
- Grade papers, compute and record grades, and report attendance;
- Complete accurate records and files, and prepare documents and reports;
- Be flexible and receptive to change.
Education and Experience: 60 college credits New Jersey Substitute Certification
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Maintain as fully as possible to established routines and procedures (including classroom management techniques) for the school and classroom to which assigned.
- Establish and maintain a sanitary, safe, orderly, attractive and positive learning environment;
- Keep an accurate accounting of pupil attendance in a school register;
- Grade papers and homework, complete accurate records and other required data, and submit reports in a timely manner; Provide feedback to the teacher. Include comments on the behavior of students, lessons completed, possible changes made in the plans (reason why).
- Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality;
- Uphold all district policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
- Keep current with issues, laws and regulations regarding positive behavior interventions, educational trends, and other issues related to substitute teaching;
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
