Position Type: SubstituteDate Posted: 12/6/2024Location: District WideSummary Description of Classification: A substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
The ability to follow lesson plans, left by the permanent teacher. Teaching capabilities in all subject areas. Excellent communications skills. The ability to address the various learning styles of students. The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience. The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs. The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students. The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments. The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior. The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies. The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely Education, Training and Experience: High School Diploma. Must attend and complete any applicable substitute training class.(unless has current or expired teaching certificate). Physical Demands: Substitute teachers need to stand for the majority of the day and may also sit for long periods and be required to reach or lift more than 25 pounds Duties and Responsibilities: The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: 1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information. 2. Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies. 3. Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. 4. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 5. Reports to office upon arrival at school; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary. 6. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible. 7. Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate. 8. Organizes students for effective instruction. 9. Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building. 10. Collects and places students' papers in regular teacher's desk. 11. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place. 12. Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies. 13. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
