Guided by principles that emphasize student success and continuous improvement, JCC welcomes applications from qualified, enthusiastic candidates.Position Description:Full-time, twelve-month professional staff position with primary responsibility to provide early outreach, information, and transitional support to accepted students. Facilitates student entry or re-entry into college and acts as a link to faculty advisors. Provides ongoing student support from acceptance through graduation.Essential Functions:Preforms the following essential functions:ONBOARDING (transitioning)
  • Provides academic advisement to general and prospective student populations (e.g. guiding student through advisement preparation materials and resources, clarifying programs and options, etc.)
  • Works closely with admissions/recruitment team to provide pre-college outreach and helps students through onboarding process from the time of admission.
  • Manages and reviews Intake Surveys, and connects students to resources identified as a need on the Intake Survey.
  • Coordinates with Advisement Coordinator to review new student files (e.g., placement testing needs, transcripts) to make sure the student is prepared to meet with a faculty advisor.
  • Connect students to Career Communities and faculty advisor, based on major.
  • Connect undecided students to counselors for advisement and career counseling.
  • Assist with coordination/implementation of Accepted Student Days as needed.
  • Participate in and present as appropriate at New Student Orientation Sessions.
  • Refer students to counselors for appropriate personal, educational, or career counseling.
  • Support faculty advisor in assisting students with implementation of academic plans (e.g. helping students to understand plans and self-register for courses).
  • SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT (retention focus)
  • ? Acts as a primary retention resource for students from acceptance through graduation (proactive outreach, referrals, providing information on college policies/procedures)
  • Engages in proactive outreach to students as needed to support them on their academic pathway as needed (guides student through processes).
  • Assist Advisement Coordinator with tracking and scheduling students for advisement appointments (continuing students).
  • Coordinates and conducts phone campaigns for new and current students.
  • Supports students by assisting them with technology (e.g., MyJCC) and web resources (open labs during advisement and/or to assist students who have met with an advisor to self-register).
  • Coordinate student activities/events, such as Advisement Prep Sessions, aimed at student success and retention
  • Provide outreach to specified cohorts of students who are flagged in StarFish and connect them to the appropriate resources.
  • Assist with the coordination of transfer events (e.g., reach out to colleges, support Student Services Assistant with transfer fairs).
  • Assist with the coordination of Career Community Events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:Required: Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of professional experience. Oral and written communication skills and group presentation skills necessary. Competence with technology and commonly used software programs. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Commitment to providing excellent customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills. Attention to detail and accuracy.Preferred: One years' experience in higher education advisory setting.Additional Information:Salary: $23.84-$28.50/hour .
