The Emergency Department (ED) provides emergency care to pediatric patients facing a wide range of acute medical conditions, injuries, and trauma. The department is specially designed to cater to the unique needs of children, offering comprehensive services in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. With dedicated areas for trauma, fast track, and behavioral health, the ED offers a diverse range of experiences for nurses seeking to develop their skills in emergency care.Summer Orientation Details* Start Dates: May and June 2025* Commitment:* * Complete general nursing orientation and role-specific training/classes, which may require full-time, day-shift hours.* Work part-time to full-time hours alongside your preceptor, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours/week during the program.* Work PRN during school semesters and breaks with flexible scheduling options.* Be immersed in the patient population and diagnoses specific to your practice setting while learning nurse technician roles and responsibilities.Position Responsibilities: As a Student Nurse Technician, you will:* Complete vital signs.* Support activities of daily living (ADLs).* Serve as a patient care companion, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.* Perform technical skills such as obtaining blood sugars, removing peripheral IVs and indwelling catheters, performing 12-lead EKGs, and more.Eligibility Requirements* Must be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or associate registered nursing degree program.* Must have completed at least one clinical rotation.* Applications must be submitted by February 1, 2025 , for consideration.Join us this summer and take the next step in your nursing journey by gaining hands-on experience in pediatric care at Akron Children's. Assists in delivering individual care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.2. Assists in patient/family education capabilities and under the direction of a licensed nurse.3. Contributes to the assessment of individual patient care.4. Contributes to the delivery of patient care.5. Participates in the educational efforts of the department and the nursing unit.6. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age and developmental status.7.
