Job DetailsJob LocationConner Prairie Museum - Fishers, INPosition TypeSeasonalJob ShiftAnyDescriptionPrincipal Function: The Camp Lifeguard responsibilities are to supervise, guard, and provide surveillance during water activities to help prevent and manage any injuries or emergencies. The Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of campers and staff participating in water activities including: swimming, boating, and playing on water toys in turbid water, and canoeing on the White River. The Lifeguard works as part of a team to deliver a safe, exciting, and educational experience to campers ages 5-13.
  • Summer Camp Lifeguard, 40hrs/week, May 19- Aug 3, $13.50+/hr
Must possess current Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent before the start of camp. Individuals without certification, but strong swimming skills, are still encouraged to apply; training options will be discussed.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Place safety and well-being of campers and staff as top priority
  • Serve as role model for campers
  • Ensure all water activity areas are safe for campers and staff
  • Supervise, guard and provide surveillance during water activities to help prevent injuries or accidents
  • Conduct mandatory head counts every 15 minutes during swimming activities
  • Administer CPR and First Aid when needed
  • Teach basic canoeing skills and water safety skills
  • Prevent drowning and injuries by providing safety instructions to campers and staff
  • Check and maintain river equipment, lifejackets, pedal boats, water toys, and docks daily
  • Check and maintain personal first aid kit daily
  • Manage use of canoes and related equipment appropriately
  • Communicate any supply needs to Camp Manager
  • Assist all campers with special needs as outlined by ADA requirements
  • Participates in pre-season trainings and helps with end of season clean-up
Education and/or Experience:
  • Must be 18 years of age or a graduate of high school.
  • Must possess current Red Cross Lifeguard certification before the start of camp. Individuals without certification, but strong swimming skills, are still encouraged to apply; training options will be discussed
  • High school diploma or GED is required. At least one semester of college is desired.
  • Experience in childcare is required. Experience working with youth at a camp or school is preferred.
  • Must be willing to adapt to new experiences.
  • Must be able to maintain high professional standards of Conner Prairie.
  • Must have fun, friendly and patient personality.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Schedule and Hours: The standard hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Staff training begins on May 19th, 2025, and camp begins on May 27th, 2025. The last day of camp is August 3rd, 2025. Staff must be able to attend staff training week and at least eight of the ten weeks of camp. This description is for general illustrative purposes and is not a guarantee of available work hours.Compensation: This is a full-time, seasonal position that is eligible for approved overtime. Benefits are not provided.
