Together, we are building the highway of the future.Pennsylvania residency is required for summer employment.Job Purpose and SummaryThis is a seasonal position that is designed to perform routine maintenance of various facilities/grounds and routine clerical work for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Work involves the use of a variety of maintenance equipment and tools for many different tasks. Work is initially reviewed closely, and close supervision is received when new work processes or procedures are introduced, however, employees are expected to perform with limited guidance after the work process is learned.Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesPerforms custodial duties such as cleaning, disposing of waste materials, replenishing supplies, washing windows, cutting grass, and maintaining flowerbeds.Cleans and maintains lanes, tunnels, stairwells, overhead walkways ground and facilities.Maintains, cleans, sanitizes, and conducts routine inspections of public restroom facilities.Performs janitorial and general grounds maintenance in and around the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks.Keeps debris and objects away from toll equipment, booths, and buildings.Ensures they are clean and free of stickers, graffiti, or other foreign substances.Provides customer assistance, either in person or by phone with emergencies, directions, receipts, roadside assistance, and contact information for the Customer Assistance Center.Assists customers with special travel accommodations, oversized load movements, emergency road closures, and detours.Inspects facilities, toll booths and premises to ensure security of all doors, windows, and gates.Reports vandalism, property damage, equipment failures, and alarms.Uses a PTC radio system for transmitting and receiving information to the Operations Center.Maintains the cleanliness of PTC vehicles and keeps accurate logs/records.Assists in pick-up and delivery of supplies, equipment, and mail.Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.Attends designated training.Adheres to workplace safety and security requirements.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent certification.Must be currently enrolled in, or accepted to, a post-secondary educational program, such as college or trade school, or entering into a basic training program for the United States Armed Services during the Summer or Fall.Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.CompetenciesActive ListeningAnalytical ThinkingAttention to DetailCommunication ProficiencyCustomer ServiceDecision Making and Independent JudgmentExternal AwarenessFlexibilityMotivatedRegular and Predictable AttendanceSafetyTime ManagementPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentPosition demands include frequent speaking, writing, and reading of reports. Position requires the ability to lift and/or move objects of up to 50 pounds and the ability to work at varying heights. Position requires frequent travel and/or fieldwork with exposure to roadway traffic. Office environment with low levels of noise, adequate lighting, and comfortable temperature. Field environment may include exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable conditions.
