Description Position at The Port Authority of NY & NJ About the InternshipThe Port Authority promotes the vitality of the region through world-class transportation by air, land, rail, and sea. Throughout its history, the Port Authority has promoted a vision of an economically integrated metropolitan area supported by a robust, multi-modal transportation linkages between the states and gateways for trade and commerce.The Innovation Unit of the Planning Department is tasked with ideating, funding, and executing innovative pilot projects that will improve the agency's business today and tomorrow. The purpose of these pilots is each to test a prescribed hypothesis such as how many people can this autonomous vehicle system transport or can we replace boat inspections with drone flights? Each pilot is ideated and shaped together with subject matter experts, pitched to executives for funding, and then executed and reported on. The Innovation Intern will help facilitate this process and get to develop a pilot project of their own!Responsibilities
- Assist in innovative projects deployed through the agency's Innovation Hub
- Furthering the Port Authority's work around autonomous vehicles, drones, sustainability, and AI
- Develop pilot projects, assist project managers in executing innovation projects
- Clerical duties related to furthering our mission
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
- Major in Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, Political Science, Public Administration, Transportation, or a related discipline
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with project management and design
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- The format is expected to be hybrid

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $29.57 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
