Summary
Will perform delegated tasks, under the direct supervision of the RN Preceptor. Promotes continuity of care by communicating with interdisciplinary team and family as appropriate. Able to work with the age specific populations according to the setting. The intern is not permitted to function independently for the primary duties listed below and is considered a technician under the supervision of the Registered Nurse preceptor.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. Assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients age. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Licensed nursing preceptor will witness medication administration. Assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Provide patient treatments and services witnessed by licensed nursing preceptor. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Interacts professionally with patient/family. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Senior level student in good standing of a nationally accredited nursing program. Must be within 12-18 months of graduation.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Current BLS certification.
