NO NIGHTS, NO WEEKENDS, SEASON COMPLETED BY AUGUST 1!The City of Sterling Heights is seeking Summer Playground workers to support the Summer Playground program! There are three different classifications available within the program; Aide, Junior Leader, and Senior Leader. Please see below for responsibilities and requirements.Summer Camp dates are June 16 - August 1; with required training scheduled throughout the month of June. All positions will receive a wage increase on July 1, 2025.Summer Playground Aide ($13.00-$14.00/hr)
- Supports Summer Playground program.
- Conducts activities as assigned by the Senior Leader.
Aide Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older and have some experience working with children.
- Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR & First Aid training dates will be made available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.
Summer Playground Junior Leader ($15.50/hr)
- Assists the Senior Leader in conducting the various arts and crafts, games and activities.
- Supervision, leadership, following directions and assignments given by the Senior Leader.
- Assumes responsibility of the site in the absence of the Senior Leader.
- Other duties as assigned.
Junior Leader Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a high school graduate and have some experience working with children.
- Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR & First Aid training dates will be made available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.
Summer Playground Senior Leader ($18.50/hr)
- Organizes and operates one site with staff assistance.
- Supervision of other staff members.
- Monitors the safety of participants.
- Disciplinary management.
- Activity planning - some activities are pre-scheduled, but day-to-day activities will be up to the entire staff and their creativity.
- Other duties as required.
Senior Leader Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least a two-year college student (majoring in education or recreation preferred).
- Must have experience working with children.
- Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR & First Aid training dates will be made available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.
