Catalog Course Description

An introduction to the evaluation, gathering, and writing of multimedianews. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the process and techniques of journalism that will focus on the writing and editing of a variety of news stories, scripts for podcasts, blogs, and newsletters.

Summary

The Arts & Communications Department at SUNY Ulster is seeking motivated candidates with a strong Journalism and Digital Storytelling education and background, with community college teaching experience preferred. Skills related: Video Content Creation, Media & Society, Journalism, Mass Media, writing for Newsletters, Blogs, Podcasts. Applicants should be able to instruct the course in an in person, remote and online format. SUNY Ulster is establishing a pool for future teaching assignments.

Position Definition

Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the adjunct instructor will provide instruction, lectures and assignments relating to Journalism and Digital Storytelling in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and the Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned. Candidates should meet the minimum job requirements as specified below and be willing to teach in a variety of formats (classroom, online, hybrid). Candidates who are currently working in the field are highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Master's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience

* Demonstrated commitment to active learning and innovative teaching

* Computer/Design Program proficiency

* Strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and working with community college students

* Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills

And

* Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Actively working in a desired field of study.

* Evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level.

* Familiarity with the BrightSpace Learning Management System.

* An instructor who engages the students, conveys the traditional materials in a dynamic and captivating format and incorporates the applied arts into their curriculum

Salary: $1049.00 per credit.
