Actively promotes a culture of safety and assures safety standards are adhered to. The Superintendent Administrator will also assist with prioritizing crew assignments in support of system maintenance related activities as needed. Adheres to and supports company policies and helps develop specific operating procedures. May be asked to assist with supervisory responsibilities including delegating functional activities to workers. Works closely with the Construction and Operations Superintendents to assure clear communications and effective teamwork.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes and encourages a safe work environment. Performs work in a safe manner in conformance with all applicable regulations. Promptly reports on-the-job accidents to the appropriate Superintendent, Manager of Operations, and Safety and Training Specialist. Participates in accident investigations and contributes to lessons learned and abatement recommendations.
  • Coordinates with management, operations, engineering, construction personnel, and UEC contractors to complete construction-related projects to meet quality and schedule requirements.
  • Assists with coordinating the activities of the line crews and oversees contractor performance and activities related to constructing safe, reliable, and cost-effective distribution and transmission for UEC and Hermiston Energy Services (HES).
  • May be asked to complete employee evaluations on time and provide meaningful feedback for each employee. Approves apprentice and pre-apprentice evaluations.
  • Keeps well informed of the latest equipment, practices, and procedures in the electric power industry and devises other means of securing maximum efficiency of personnel and equipment within his/her jurisdiction.
  • Assist the Construction Superintendent with budget and work plan recommendations to the Manager of Operations related to construction activities and the ongoing maintenance and management of UEC construction vehicles.
  • Assists with the development of training plans to ensure employee development. Provides training and assistance to employees in the department to assure the quality of work performed.
  • Assures all applicable UEC procedures regarding the placement and activation of meters are followed. Partners with other departments to conduct routine audits of new meter placements to confirm data is being properly transmitted for billing.
  • Serves in the Tech on Call rotation to support after-hour member needs.

  • Assures operations are within various State, Federal, and REA guidelines.
  • Coordinates manpower, monitors, and provides field checks of construction activities.
  • Assist with creating and scheduling annual substation maintenance, inspections, and other work activities.
  • Coordinates with the operations team on response to outages.
  • Delegates functional activities to workers and establishes supervisory schedules to define authority for independent decisions imperative to continuous service to the public and safety of workers as needed.
  • May be asked to recruit and supervise workers directly or through crew foreman.
  • Works with local union leadership and Labor Relations to develop a healthy working relationship, build a collaborative environment, and deal with employee issues.
  • Assists with tracking and management of the fleet.
  • Supports company policies and methods and develops specific operating procedures for approval.
  • Conducts themselves in a manner that reflects well on UEC and contributes to harmonious relations with members and the general public.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor and/or manager.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITYAssists with the management of union and non-union represented employees. When assigned, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving employee concerns.QUALIFICATIONSAbility to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the safety or health of employees or others. Required Qualifications:Education: Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an electric utility administrator, journey-level craft worker or engineer plus one (1) year in a supervisory position. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing a Union Contract is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate competency in the understanding of hazardous energy control procedures and be familiar with utility line construction equipment and work practices.
  • Must have general knowledge of the specifications and operating principles of power transmission and distribution equipment as well as voltage control, system protection, metering, and automation concepts.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and be familiar with Rural Utilities Services (RUS) or other electric utility construction specification standards is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including MS Office Products and operations within the Windows operating system, as well as communication by e-mail and use of scheduling software. Experience with OMS and SCADA is preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License preferred for occasional business travel.
  • Journeyman Certificate is preferred.
