For over 60 years, St. Vincents Special Needs Services (SVSNS) has been a trusted provider of specialized services for children and adults with multiple developmental disabilities and complex medical needs, such as cerebral palsy, acute brain injury, neuromuscular disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Each year, more than 400 children, adults and their families receive services from the organization.

Assists the Manager of Adult Services in overseeing related operations and provides supervision and leadership to all shift staff to ensure services meet professional practices and legal requirements. Ensures that all persons receiving services are treated with dignity and respect. Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of individual plans (IPs) and provides opportunities for individualization, independence, and inclusion.

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Provide direct supervision and support for Personal Care Attendants and daily routines on assigned shifts.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and in-service for colleagues in accordance with DDS regulations.
  • Ensure services are centered around individual needs and preferences.
  • Review shift schedules and ensure adequate staffing for each day.
  • Assist with completion of performance review for Personal Care Attendants.

Compliance & Quality Improvement:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure operational compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Complete routine physical inspections of all sites and generate work orders as needed.
  • Ensure that all food and household supplies are maintained.

Health & Safety:

  • Review Kardex/MAR/Treatment Book daily.
  • Coordinate health and medical appointments and follow-up.
  • Ensure fire drills are completed and documented as required.
  • Identify and report any safety concerns to the Manager of Adult Services.

Household Management:

  • Assist with meal preparation based on mealtime guidelines and food consistency.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required

Bachelors degree in Human Services preferred

Minimum of 2 years of experience assisting individuals with disabilities

Licensed Drivers License credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date

Qualified for PSL and Medication Administration Certification

Knowledge of Healthcare and Disability Services:

  • Understanding of disability care, person-centered planning, and legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Familiar with individual plan (IP) development and implementation.

Supervisory and Leadership:

  • Experience in supervising, coaching, and leading a team.
  • Skilled in managing schedules and staffing for adequate coverage.

Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving:

  • Strong decision-making in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to address safety and operational issues effectively.

Organizational and Time Management:

  • Skilled in handling multiple tasks and completing required documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate appointments and activities efficiently.

Communication and Interpersonal:

  • Clear verbal and written communication with colleagues and individuals served.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage respectfully with colleagues and clients.

Technical:

  • Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Outlook, Microsoft Word, etc.).

Physical Abilities:

  • Capable of light physical tasks and emergency response.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts.

Must be able to work flexible hours, be on-call, and provide weekend coverage as scheduled.

Ability to cover different shifts (Morning, Evening, Night) as needed.
