SUMMARY
As the Supervisor of the Applications & Development Lab, this individual is responsible for the safe operation, scheduling, monitoring and daily reporting activities for the plastics fabrication laboratory area. This will include, but not limited to, trials conducted on multi-layer and mono film lines, cast and co-ex-cast film, extrusion coating/lamination, twin screw compounding and all related auxiliary equipment associated with lab activities. The selected individual will perform the above duties in support of Customers, TS&D, Product Development, Marketing, Production Units and other areas as needed to promote Company objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Promote Safety as a top priority and drive continuous safety improvements for all lab activities.
* Perform duties in a manner that protects all personnel on site. When required and appropriate, promptly report Safety, Health, or Environmental incidents or issues to management.
* Attend safety training programs and courses in support of promoting continuous safety improvements and ensure succession training for adequate lab coverage during your absence.
* Lead monthly safety meetings for the entire Application & Development Lab area (B51).
* Promote Company policies by explaining and administering instructions as they apply to employees supervised. Explains and enforces both Company and departmental rules.
* Schedule technicians daily work assignments, priorities, work hours and overtime as needed.
* Create weekly job schedule and maintain an up-to-date shared laboratory calendar in outlook. Present calendar in weekly staff calls with TS&D and Product Development.
* Schedule and generate work orders, issues Safe Work and Open Flame permits for lab activity.
* Maintain Lockout-Tagout procedures and ensure adherence to new/existing procedures.
* Maintain equipment operating procedures and ensure technicians are following standards.
* Maintain technician training logbooks and ensure adequate training to employees supervised.
* Train laboratory technicians, technologists and in-house contractors as required.
* Work with appropriate departments to ensure training content is relevant to the needs of the lab and promotes continuous education of employees supervised.
* Serve as a technical resource for customer visits and trials and push for providing an exceptional customer experience for both internal and external customers.
* Work with Capital Engineers, Execution Forces and contractors on equipment moves, installs, upgrades and improvements.
* Function as the primary source for services to maintain Application Lab infrastructure such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and other disciplines as needed.
* Responsible for ensuring lab equipment is performing to high standards and properly functioning. Works with various vendors, contractors and other maintenance groups as needed to ensure smooth equipment operation.
* Maintain warehouse operations for the lab and ensure trial materials are on hand as needed.
* Coordinate with other functional departments such as, but not limited to, Production, QC, Logistics, etc. in support of overall all Company assets and business as needed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Requires a BS or BA degree with minimum 5 years polyolefin technical experience or 15 years polyolefin technical industrial experience.
* Possess fundamental knowledge of various plastics manufacturing processes including manufacture, testing, analytical and end use applications for products produced.
* Strong computer skills with ability to think analytically.
* Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, interpret and present data on both machine and product performance.
* Ability to effectively lead in a cross-functional environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job is performed mainly in control room or office setting; physical presence is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; have full use and range of motion of arms, hands and fingers to reach, grasp, hold, push or pull, twist, and work with tools; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to perform tasks that may require bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lying down or working from elevated platforms. The employee must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to see details of objects that are more/less than a few feet away; see differences between colors, shades and brightness and determine the distance between objects. This job requires response to audible emergency alarms inside of the plant. Employee must be able to evacuate when required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee must be able to work in a normal factory environment, including enclosed spaces and exposure to various hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, flame retardant clothing, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
