Overview This position is responsible for leading the Donor Services phlebotomy staff, management of day of blood draw operations, performs blood collection procedures and allied activities in the donor room and at mobile sites in accordance with BBD guidelines as described below. This position is also responsible for coaching staff on department SOPs and policies, job performance, achievement of established goals, customer service skills and professionalism. Leads the record review and serves as a supervisor to all new and existing employees in advanced collection platforms. Candidates must be flexible for a varied schedule, including day, evening, and weekend shifts. This position will require a rotation working out of our Christiana, Concord, and Middletown Donor Centers. This position is considered essential during severe weather or emergency operation events. ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Leads collections staff to meet performance standards and daily goals and monitors workflow (donor flow).
- Accountable for assuring delivery of excellent customer service to all donors by each staff member; addressing issues and providing follow-up as needed.
- Coaches employees on issues that arise and provides timely feedback to manager of any concerns or difficulties encountered.
- Oversees pre-phlebotomy record review monitoring for errors and provides feedback to staff regarding errors.
- Performs posting of screening and phlebotomy results assuring accuracy of data entered into the BECS system.
- Ensures that employees greet donors warmly and performs registration of donors in the BECS system. Verifies that donors receive required educational materials and assists in conducting donor interviews in a confidential and professional manner to determine donor eligibilities according to BBD standards.
- Oversees and performs bag preparation, phlebotomy, and discontinuation of whole blood and automated collection procedures as defined by platform ensuring the collected products meet acceptable standards.
- Monitors the donor's progress during the procedure and provides prompt responses to adverse donor reactions according to BBD collection guidelines.
- Responsible for reviewing the registered donors and communicating daily goals to the staff with a plan to help the team meet their targeted product expectations.
- Precepts and mentor's new employees in registration, donor screening and phlebotomy procedures.
- Precepts and mentors blood collection techs newly trained on automated collection platforms, and assists with the development of staff by providing coaching, targeted feedback, mentoring and support to meet performance standards.
- Provides feedback to manager on overall staff performance and competency; provides input to manager for disciplinary actions, assists in performance evaluations and administration of annual performance reviews.
- Participates in the interview process and makes hiring recommendations.

Other Functions:
- Performs start-up activities including, but not limited to, ensuring that interview materials and phlebotomy equipment and supplies are set up and/or operable in keeping with QC standards.
- Performs day end activities including, but not limited to, cleaning equipment, re-stocking supplies, and removing/storing supplies in a controlled area.
- Works mobiles and other locations as assigned.
- While working on a mobile participates in pre-draw set up and post draw packing of supplies and equipment and cleanup of controlled supplies upon return to the Center.
- Attend meetings and leadership training sessions as scheduled.
QualificationsEducation:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- 4+ years of blood bank, phlebotomy, or other clinical healthcare involving patient or donor care experience required.
- 2+ years of experience in leading, coaching and mentoring staff in a lead position preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- CPR Certification preferred.
