MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Supervisor, Inventory Operations in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America.

Purpose of the Role: The Supervisor, Inventory Operations will be responsible for planning and coordinating activities related to the management of MPS Inventories at the Gordonsville and Offsite storage locations. Directing staff to ensure timely processing of scheduled trucks in/out of each site. Will support Inventory Control personnel in facilitating receipts, counts and inspections of inventories as needed. Will maintain reporting on established metrics and responsible for enforcing safety, health and housekeeping policies.

Key responsibilities/tasks:

  • Manages and communicates with internal and external customers on inventory statuses, rework, and inspections
  • Coordinates and facilitates the cycle count program.
  • Work with traffic and receiving to route inbound shipments to proper docks as needed based on laydown and off-site shipping opportunities.
  • Manages Destroy requests, and facilitates the processing of these.
  • Will serve as a key backup support for the Analyst roles and responsibilities.
  • Work in tandem with receiving department to ensure adequate resources are in place to complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees effectively with appropriate follow up.
  • Enforces established safety, health, and housekeeping policies and procedures in order to minimize injuries, loss of production time, and damage
  • Monitors employee's time, tracks paid time off, authorizes and forwards employee's time sheets to Payroll Department.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent multi-tasking skills, ability to prioritize and handle many projects at once with ever shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound judgment in maintaining confidentiality of information
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to meet above responsibilities
  • Proficient working knowledge of WMS and Vista

Desirable Skills/experience required:

  • Proficient knowledge of MPS warehouse processes as it relates to Receiving, Inventory Control and Shipping.
  • Consistently maintains professional rapport and confidentiality in communicating with other departments as required by procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of HR duties to accurately track and record LOA's, PTO time, early outs and special requests made by team members.

Key relationships:

* This role will work directly with Warehouse Operations and Traffic to ensure timely processing of trucks and inventories that will be critical to fill rates and customer satisfaction. * This role will also be a primary liaison for Macmillan Learning and channel partners to ensure issues and concerns regarding inventory are addressed timely.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio and percent and to prepare and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Other skills and abilities: Computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and WMS.
