General Summary:Responsible for supervising the activities of Non-Revenue Vehicle (NRV) personnel involved with repairing and inspecting non-revenue equipment for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Performs complex duties related to technical assignment areas; is responsible for highly complex maintenance projects.
- Interviews, selects, develops, trains, supervises, evaluates, counsels, and, if necessary, recommends termination of subordinate personnel in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including EEO/AA program goals and objectives.
- Schedules work on shift and make assignments to utilize the workforce best to meet NRV Services Goals and Objectives. Verifies daily time worked by assigned staff.
- Supervises repair and service of non-revenue equipment and may assist staff with diagnosis of repairs.
- Coordinates with servicers on vehicle pick up for PMI/Detail/Defects reports.
- Submits online service requests for shop engine oil, waste oil, and scrap metal.
- Opens work orders and checks recent repair history using the computer terminal.
- Authorizes and verifies requisitions for parts and supplies. Makes an inventory of parts and materials.
- Ensures appropriate records pertaining to work performed are maintained.
- Promotes established safety programs and takes precautions to ensure staff follow appropriate procedures when using DART-owned tools, shop equipment, and service vehicles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below-stated minimums, excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a field of expertise (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, heavy equipment, automotive, computer technology, electrical, electronic, occupational technology, curriculum development, engineering, light rail vehicle, rail signal systems, or other technical fields applicable to DART Maintenance).
- Five (5) years of progressive maintenance service experience in a technical environment, including experience in a maintenance area on equipment (e.g., LRT system, coach maintenance, heavy equipment, LRT vehicle, or maintenance support) utilized within DART.
- Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class A, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record to operate DART vehicles. Must obtain CDL within ninety (90) days upon hire.
- Must work in a safe manner and a constant state of alertness.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety-sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
- Physical ability to be mobile and frequently, more than 50% of work time, lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, such as parts, small hand tools, and equipment repair equipment.
- Ability to work irregular hours and irregular days off.
- Ability to comprehend complex materials and concentrate on details.
- Personal computer (PC); software applications such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, database; typical office equipment such as copier, calculator, typewriter, facsimile, etc.
- Ability to use Fleet service equipment, machinery, tools, fire, and shop safety devices.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Works in an environment where there is potential exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. Work could involve unpleasant working conditions such as dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities. All incumbent exposures will be controlled through adhering to policies and procedures, which include safety precautions, regulations and the use of personal protective equipment.
