We share a collective vision to educate, nurture and empower all students to become career and/or college ready.Position Summary: The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision, and have the primary responsibility of planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring the Science program in grades K-12 for the District. The Supervisor of K-12 Science Support will be responsible for developing curriculum and assessments, providing staff development, and preparing and monitoring the program budget.Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
  • Supervises and administers a district wide Science (K-12) curricula to ensure alignment with state and national standards
  • Supervises and supports principals and science teachers in instructional practices, providing coaching and professional development opportunities
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and recommends revisions and improvements as needed
  • Coordinates curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and revision
  • Visits and observes district schools on a regular basis to ensure consistency of what is taught from school to school and teacher to teacher in Science programs
  • Indirectly supervises elementary school Science teachers and assists school principals with evaluation
  • Performs classroom observations and assists teachers in the improvement of instructional performance
  • Provides guidance in the selection of textbooks and other teaching materials and equipment for varied Science programs
  • Assists in developing and conducting division wide staff development for the district schools' instructional Science staff
  • Assists with interviewing and recommending qualified candidates for Science instructional positions
  • Serves as the central office contact and liaison with parents and the community regarding Science (K-12) instructional programs
  • Coordinates meetings with specialists, department chairs, teachers, and administrators and disseminates information regarding current developments and teaching practices in the field
  • Coordinates district wide Science activities and events
  • Represents the school district in educational projects and initiatives at the local, regional, state, and national levels
  • Serves as the LEA contact for DCIU Science professional activities
  • Provides materials as needed to support Science Programs (K-12)
  • Models non-discriminatory and culturally competent practices in all activities
  • Provides instructional coaching for district Instructional Facilitators in the elementary schools and department chairs in the middle and high schools
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with other school districts and professional societies to keep abreast of developments in Science
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools or other appropriate administrator

  • Knowledge of PA Core Standards, K-12 STEELS Standards and Eligible Content
  • Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block
  • Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components including but not limited to, TWIG Science and Savvas: Elevate Science
  • Courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment.
  • Receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years instructional experience in the area of Science
  • Proven track record with coaching teachers, staff and principals
  • Proven ability to develop formative assessments
  • Proven track record of developing interim assessments
  • Certification in one of the following areas - Principal (K-12), Supervisor Science (7-12), or Supervisor Curriculum and Instruction (PK-12) *highly preferred

  • School Personnel Health Record and TB test
