GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for vehicle and trailer inspection and related programs. Assist in properly planning and coordinating stevedoring and yard operations in a safe, organized manner for maximum yard efficiency. Manage staffing of union employees, for safety rule enforcement, operations oversight, and completion of all pertinent reports and paperwork. Ensure all cargo and empties are identified and loaded in conformance with procedures and guidelines. Formulate and implement stowage plans to ensure optimum vessel stability and trim. Maintain relationships with union and non-union personnel through proper administration of all policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement. Control costs by managing meal periods and minimizing overtime.QualificationsEDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in business, transportation, logistics or a related field; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.EXPERIENCE: 4+ years of experience in yard or vessel operations. Union supervisory experience preferred.TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word. COMPENTENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to train and direct the work of others. Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment. Ability to gather, interpret, report and use data and other information concerning assigned activities. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to safely operate various types of motorized vehicles. Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.OTHER: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) credential is required. Also, subject to a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check to obtain your driving history.JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.FLSA Status: The position is Exempt. May require the ability to work overtime to meet required deadlines. All work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health, are expected to be respected and complied with.
