Job Summary The Supervisor of Power Systems & Equipment will assist the Superintendent in overseeing and directing operation of the entire MBTA's power system through power control and the maintenance activities of the power system that provides power to the subway, trackless trolley, facilities and RTL shops. Schedules and coordinate inspection and testing of equipment and corrective/preventive maintenance activities Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedules and tracks maintenance activities for traction power sub stations, mobile sub stations and AC switching stations.
- Oversees entire power system and power switching through power control, monitors and analyzes entire power system, directing and controlling inspecting, testing, materials analysis, and equipment used by the Power System and Equipment Area
- Schedules and coordinate testing of direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) circuit breakers and monitor's progress.
- Reviews, updates and monitors compliance with schedule and record monthly safety meetings and provides input to improve departmental safety policies.
- Reviews weekly schedules and coordinates corrective and preventive maintenance activities. Monitors overtime spending and appropriate billing.
- Participates in personnel development and new hire training schedules, monitors and maintains records of required authority and area training.
- Assists in the departmental budget preparation process and assure strict budgetary control.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and /or transports crews or equipment as needed.
- Conducts investigations and imposes discipline where necessary.
- Work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.
- Familiarity with the MBTA's safety plan as well as the position's outlined responsibilities.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
- Participates in design review process.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Field.
- Five (5) years of experience in the design, maintenance and operation of traction power substations, power control and gas turbines in transit power systems.
- Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Effective organizational, analytical, time management and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Database applications.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- A Journeyman License preferred.
Substitutions Include
- A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
- An Associate's degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
- A Master's degree in a related subject substitute for two (2) years of general experience.
- A Nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.
- Four (4) additional years of experience in the design maintenance and operations of traction power substations, power control and gas turbines in transit power systems may be substituted for a degree requirement.
