ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- An active participant and advocate for the plant safety programs.
- Directs the day-to-day activities of employees who operate and maintain process equipment. Ensures adherence to safety policies and procedures, work rules, standard operating procedures, and accepted techniques in operations and activities.
- Takes the lead in resolving both people and equipment problems. Develops and drives continuous improvement efforts.
- Carries out company policy and programs and vocally and openly supports management.
- Participates in the definition and attainment of unit goals and objectives.
- The focal point of all activity in the plant production departments.
- The major communicator between production and all other plant departments.
- The coordinator of all groups and organizations associated with the production areas.
- Responsible for developing and training the people reporting to him.
- Support positive union - management relations and communications.
- Support overall plant objectives by accepting assignments and working with plant peers.
- Responsibility and authority for all plant assets and activities during off-shifts and weekends. The production Supervisor, in many respects, serves as the off-shift Plant Manager. This requires the Production Supervisor to become familiar and comfortable with all routine plant activities.
- Other duties as assigned or directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the production technicians as well as any other plant employees when their supervisor is not on site.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong mechanical and process/systems aptitude and knowledge as might be obtained through obtaining an engineering degree along with process industry experience. Excellent follow-through behavior, high level of accuracy, strong team player, detail-oriented, and problem solving are essential.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to communicate well with hourly technicians, salary personnel, and outside agencies. Written communication skills are also required. Also must be able to read, and understand detailed, written instructions. Ability to use a computer as well as Microsoft Office applications is essential.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate percentages and ratios and perform simple algebraic functions. Also required is proficiency using spreadsheet and database applications.REASONING ABILITY: Should be able to use reasoning techniques and make weighted decisions using them. Successful troubleshooting of process issues is critical.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Should possess, or be able to train to become certified in First Aid & CPR and serve as a first responder in plant.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift 50 pounds, turn valves, operate equipment, and climb steps, stairs, and ladders is essential. Must be able to wear job/area appropriate safety equipment including , but not limited, to hard hat, ear plugs, steel toed boots, full and half face respirators, gloves, various fall protection devices, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a multi-level (stairs, steps, and ladders), continuously operating chemical production facility with both indoor and outdoor assignments and responsibilities. Both high and low temperature and humidity environments will be routine as well as limited exposure to chemicals.
