SummaryThis is a SUPERVISORY FISH & WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST GS-0401-12 working in Indiahoma, OK for the R2-Assistant Regional Director-Fisheries. The duty station is at the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge but it is not a refuge position. This is a Military Lands Conservation Program position with the Fish and Aquatic Conservation Assistant Regional Director Office stationed at the refuge. Incumbent will be expected to travel to several military installations across OK and TX to conduct projects.This job is open to

All qualified applicants will be referred to the hiring manager for consideration for this position.DutiesAs a SUPERVISORY FISH & WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Plans and conducts status surveys for both listed and candidate species, in cooperation with other Federal and state agency personnel, private organization representatives, and contractors; negotiates agreements for status surveys with prospective contractors and personnel of cooperating agencies.
  • Reviews rules, regulations, legislation and statutes pertaining to rare, candidate, proposed, threatened, and endangered fish, wildlife, and plant resources. Recommends appropriate procedures for implementing provisions of these mandates and establishes key contacts with other agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Provides guidance to, and directs and evaluates the work of, career ladder and entry-level biologists, and partner organization interns of sister agencies in matters pertinent to areas of special expertise
  • Plans, investigates, conducts, and reviews on-site ecological investigations on a wide variety of the most complex and diverse Federal land and water resource development proposals to determine their effects on fish and wildlife resources, with special emphasis on rare, candidate, proposed, federally listed threatened and endangered species habitat, upland riparian, and aquatic habitats, aquatic ecology and management, and other habitats of concern in the affected area

QualificationsOnly experience and education obtained by 11/27/2024 will be considered.In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.Basic Requirement:
  • Possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
  • Possess a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • Minimum Qualification [GS-12]
    • Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1.) Conducting status surveys for listed and candidate species, in cooperation with Federal and state agency personnel, private organization representatives, and contractors; 2.) Assisting with planning, investigating, conducting, and reviewing on-site ecological investigations on a wide variety Federal land and water resource development projects to determine their effects on fish and wildlife resources; 3.) Preparing biological portions of environment assessment/impact statements or comprehensive resource planning reports; and 4.) Developing habitat conservation or restoration projects. NOTE: This experience must be clearly reflected in your resume.
