Duties As a Supervisory IT Specialist (INFOSEC), you will perform the following duties:
  • Leads implementation activities required by Federal Government standards such as all revisions of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publications (e.g. SP 800-37, 800-39, 800-53, 800-63, 800-128, 800- 145) as well as Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) publications (e.g., FIPS 199, FIPS 200, FIPS 140-2); OMB Circular A-130; FISMA; E-Government Act of 2002; Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act of 2018; and the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). Analyzes feasibility studies, proposals, and performs analyses of current requirements and forecast trends and future needs. Keeps abreast of changing and emerging technology. Makes recommendations on adopting changes. Provides analysis and advice on complex and unusual program related certification and accreditation, and FISMA issues or problems. Applies analytical techniques to identify and evaluate findings and satisfy mission requirements.
  • Creates, implements, and provides oversight of information security policy for the Department and all Bureaus. Consults with leadership on the development of information security policies, strategies and plans to implement requirements outlined in the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), associated Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies and other legislative or policy requirements as applicable to the Department.
  • Ensures managers of subordinate offices accomplish their missions on schedule and within budget. Provides developmental opportunities to staff in area managed to maintain positive morale and ensure quality service is provided.

Specialized experience is defined as: Identifying and mitigating Information Technology (IT)/computer threats and vulnerabilities within an organization or business; Ensuring compliance and the application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of all IT services; AND Leading teams in conducting systems security evaluations, audits, and reviews of IT/ computer systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
