The SI program facilitates student learning in historically difficult courses through small group sessions led by undergraduate peer educators, or SI Leaders. In this position, the SI Coordinator will support implementation and assessment of SI, and exercise regular and ongoing decision-making about the daily operations of the program. This position will work closely with the STEM Tutor Coordinator and the Tutor Coordinator to ensure a full slate of offerings provided by the Learning Commons.The Learning Commons at the University at Albany is a dynamic environment that supports student success and is a central hub for a wide range of academic success programming. These include Enrichment Programs, Online Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), peer tutoring, STEM Tutoring (UUNI 90), UUNI-350: Peer Tutor Training, UUNI-498: STEM Tutor Training, study strategies, learning resources, information, and referral.Primary Responsibilities:Operational ManagementOversee day-to-day operations of the SI ProgramSchedule SI sessions and monitor attendanceTrack the program's budget and work with Business Manager to hire SI leadersContribute to the development of marketing materialsAssessment and Strategic PlanningCollect and analyze data to compile reports for program assessment, including quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting documentsEngage in strategic planning with the Director and contribute to strategic planning for the Learning CommonsProgram Collaboration and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion EffortsCollaborate with Learning Commons colleagues on current academic support programs and initiativesExpand and enhance cultural competency and diversity efforts in the SI program, Learning Commons, and the UniversityCoordination and Supervision of SI LeadersRecruit, train, and coordinate SI leadersCreate content and lead professional development meetings for SI leadersMonitor SI leader's engagement with the course, faculty, and session planningConduct SI leader observations and debriefsProvide regular, timely feedback on SI leader performanceProvide leadership, oversight, and direction to SI leaders to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's goals and strategiesTrack student employee attendance and approve time recordsOutreachRepresent the SI program to the broader campus community including meeting regularly with participating facultyGive in-class presentations about the SI programRepresent the SI program and the Learning Commons at University eventsOther reasonable duties as assigned.Functional and Supervisory Relationships:Reports to the Director of the Learning Commons and HHMI STEMSupervises the following positions: Undergraduate SI LeadersJob Requirements:Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing demandsAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of the Learning Commons teamDemonstrated experience and ability to collaborate constructively with campus partners and stakeholders, including undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers, faculty, and staff.Familiarity with the Supplemental Instruction modelKnowledge of evidence-based teaching practices including collaborative learning techniques, learning theories, and study strategies applicable to a college environment.Demonstrated experience and ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate studentsExcellent organizational and analytical skillsStrong written and oral communication skills and attention to detailRequirements:Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in a related field or Bachelor's degree in a related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization with 2 or more years of relevant professional experienceExperience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student employeesExperience in developing and implementing successful student programsExperience conducting assessments and using data for decision-making and planningExperience collaborating with faculty and campus partnersA demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusionApplicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus communityApplicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their rolePreferred Qualifications:At least 2 years of relevant experience in peer education program development or coordination in an institution of higher educationExperience providing training and professional development using facilitative pedagogyExperience engaging in strategic planning for a unit or programExperience working with a diverse student populationWorking Environment:Typical office environmentOn-campus mobility, self-propelled or assistedOccasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 25 poundsAdditional Information:Professional Rank and Salary Grade: SL-3, $56,000-$59,000Special Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
