Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Manager

Purpose:

The SQE Manager oversees the implementation and maintenance of quality and environmental management systems, ensuring supplier compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 standards. This role drives improvements in supplier performance, reduces customer returns, and ensures that received materials meet production standards. By leading supplier assessments, risk-based evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives, the Supplier Quality Manager supports strategic objectives and maintains strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Support efforts to implement and maintain an ISO9001 compliant Quality Management System across the organization.
  • Support efforts to implement and maintain an ISO 14000 compliant Environmental Management System across the organization.
  • Lead investigation activities to drive improvements in supplier-related customer returns.
  • Develop and maintain a supplier control program which includes physical assessments of targeted suppliers.
  • Lead efforts to implement a Receiving Inspection organization capable of ensuring that received components can be readily consumed by manufacturing.
  • Support efforts to implement document control systems which apply across the organization.
  • Lead efforts to implement a supplier scoring system that drives objective improvements in supplier performance.
  • Support supplier selection process and develop objective criteria for managing supplier quality performance
  • Lead efforts to develop and maintain a risk-based supplier assessment program
  • Support efforts to implement a supplier certification process
  • Identify and support efforts to achieve cost reduction/savings initiatives
  • Participate in internal audit program in applicable facilities.
  • Lead kaizen activities in support of strategic objectives.
  • Participate and contribute to required management review activities.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support activities to implement visual management and SPC activities.
  • When required, monitor and document the statistical outcome of process(es).
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing the applicable quality assurance budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Manage and effectively execute on projects as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of direct reports and will serve as the point of contact on all quality topics on assigned product categories. As needed, will engage in activities with equipment manufacturers, industry colleagues, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years' experience in Quality Assurance (required)
  • 5 years' experience in a supplier quality performance role
  • Experience of working with and in an environment where industry specific QMS Certifications are governing. (ISO / IATF preferred)
  • 6 years Quality Assurance leadership (preferred).
  • Knowledge of a high-volume production environment, preferably in the heavy fabrication or automotive industry.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Experience in leading, managing, and developing direct reports.
  • Bachelor's degree business, engineering, or supply chain management. Previous experience in a supplier quality role will be considered.
  • Supplier auditor certification to ISO9000, IATF16949, or AS9100 preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification
