Purpose of Job:

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Lithium Warranty Specialist supports Interstate Batteries goals by analyzing lithium products, liaising with internal and external partners, and continually improving processes and documentation.

Job Components:

  • Process all incoming lithium returns and warranties, including inventory management, testing, analysis, communicating with customers, and documentation. (Including testing/validating warranties & identifying potential quality issues).
  • Perform investigations of vehicle and equipment application compatibility and report to internal and external customers or partners.
  • Assist in receiving and reviewing all defective items and returning them to the vendor to ensure all necessary credits are applied to our account.
  • Perform data entry and maintain records in electronic databases (such as SAP), while preparing reports for regular Quality meetings.
  • Effectively work within the established Quality Management System while adhering to all other regulations.
  • Design, perform, and analyze lithium battery tests and then communicate with management as well as customers.
  • Use and understand implemented test programs for a variety of lithium battery analyzing equipment.
  • Estimate, plan, prioritize, perform, and record detailed quality checks/tests of new and existing products.
  • Participate in and support departmental and organizational-based continuous improvement activities.
  • Consult with SQE Management and other Technicians to improve efficiencies, operational procedures, and product quality.
  • Liaise with management and clients to identify and define project requirements, scopes, and objectives that align with organizational goals.
  • Support trade shows or customer events, as necessary.
  • Prepare reports by analyzing and summarizing collected data.
  • Perform ongoing sample tests of our inventory to verify the quality of the batteries and provide flexibility to the team by aiding areas of the department which may see periodic increased workloads.
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and execution of special department quality projects under the direction of SQE management.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in technical specialty or four years of related work experience.
  • Technical and analytical abilities to problem solve and troubleshoot electrical issues, preferably with firmware-controlled products. (Problem-solving/analysis as well as decision making).
  • Technical ability to operate sophisticated test equipment and analyze test data or write technical specifications.
  • Strong computer skills, and the ability to manage databases and testing regimes.
  • Ability to negotiate settlements with vendors for products which did not meet standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills in order to communicate in detail with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems & regulations such as ISO9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, and/or AS9100.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and competing requirements under moderate supervision.

Scope:

  • Detailed technical skills and strong battery knowledge to evaluate batteries and develop new testing procedures.
  • Evaluate and make decisions on the pass/fail of batteries and communicate requests for improvements to vendors.
  • Interact professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Under the direction of management, independently manage workload fluctuation.
  • Report with detailed progress of assigned tasks or projects.

Work Environment:

  • On-site position in either Dallas, TX or Urbandale, IA.
  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to safely attach batteries to a tester or charging station.
  • Minimal travel to trade shows/customer events.
