Job Description:
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. This position's typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, and may include work performed during some evenings and weekends. Primary Duties/Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to assist with administrative, logistics and supply support to the Academy. Duties will include but are not limited to: conduct inventory of clothing and equipment and survey for serviceability; restock supplies as required; prepare Hand-Receipts, Property Books and Document Registers; process clothing records for issue and turn-in postings; provide supply assistance during acclimation phase; conduct day to day supply actions over the counter; conduct turn-in and pick-up of supplies at USPFO/DPS; conduct laundry and linen turn-in and issue twice per week; assist in procuring supplies from local vendors as required; obtain and maintain a current CDL (Passenger Bus) License; responsible for vehicle maintenance to include quality control, scheduling, shuttling, log preparation and pick-up of vehicles; conduct Property Book inventories as required. Selected individual must be tactful, patient, and must possess superior organizational skills. Must be able to maintain a CDL Class A License. Required to complete the following training provided by TCA: Staff Acclimation Course, Foundations Course, Gang Awareness/Conflict Resolution, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and Hands Off Trainining; First Aid/CPR (recertify every two years) Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC01. About the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy: The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) is a quasi-military style resident program for at risk youth in the ages of 16-18. Sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard, the TCA mission is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment. The intent is to give them the skills and attitude to become productive citizens in their communities. The Academies are located in two different locations: Salemburg and New London, North Carolina. It is a 17-month program divided into two distinct phases: a five-month in-residence phase at the academies, and a twelve-month post-residential phase immediately following graduation for the in-residence phase. TCA seeks to improve the life and future employment potential of its cadets by concentrating on eight core components which are: Life Coping Skills, Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship, Job Skills, Service to Community, Health and Hygiene, Physical Fitness, and Leadership/Followership. About the NC Dept. of Public Safety (DPS): The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.   • Experience in inventory recordkeeping methods and procedures.
  • Experience operating a computer (including Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Experience in computerized procurement/inventory systems.
  • Experience in conducting manual inventory counts and make rapid and accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Experience in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Physical strength to lift and move relatively heavy objects (i.e., furniture, etc.).
  • Experience in maintaining professional and effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, and cadets
