BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Facilitates the material supply function to ensure all purchases optimize value and quality while maintaining optimal inventory levels to minimize cars holding for materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Purchasing experience required
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Strong Microsoft Excel experience required
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Strong math skills required - calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keep records of material supply activities, maintain files, and create accurate material forecasts.
- Train less experienced buyers and complete special projects as needed.
- Work with internal and external customers to address service concerns.
- Monitor supplier performance, ensure timely delivery of materials, and avoid shortages.
- Promote paperless transactions where useful and find new suppliers for materials.
- Present surplus materials to management to reduce excess inventory.
- Handle failed materials, process new material requests, and review blocked invoices and back-order reports.
- Prepare and share reports, schedules, and forecasts.
- Carry out most tasks independently while following general instructions. Get guidance for complex issues and approval for plans when necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a hybrid role with in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at our brand-new office in Charlotte, NC. The office is located at The Line, within walking distance of the light rail.
